Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS) is a global function within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED). As a team member in Predictive Modeling and Data Analytics (PMDA) chapter of PS, you will work in close collaboration with scientists in pRED, using state-of-the-art bioinformatics and biostatistics tools and methods.

The position

We are seeking an intern pursuing a PhD or master’s degree with expertise in computational biology and bioinformatics, especially in the area of human kinome. The intern will create new tools and algorithms to study drug’s pharmacological and toxicological effect from the perspective of protein phosphorylation and kinase activities.

In this position you will:

  • Integrate recently available resources into existing databases and tools for kinase activity inference;

  • Collect proprietary and publicly available datasets to benchmark existing knowledgebase and tools available;

  • Develop new software to analyze phosphoproteomics data and to derive insights.

You have experience and expertise in the following:

  • At least 1-2 years’ working experience in computational biology and bioinformatics, especially in the field of protein post-translational modifications.

  • Strong programming skills in Python or R, with at least one open-source package publicly available.

  • Good understanding of molecular biology and proteomics.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in English


Qualifications Required
:

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD or master programme. Alternatively, you graduated within 12 months from your Master studies. Gap year students are not eligible.

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related discipline (e.g. computer science, biomedicine, biological sciences, biostatistics).

Due to regulations Non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory as part of the application documents. Furthermore, they need to be enrolled during the entire duration of the internship.

When does it start?

The internship can start as soon as possible. Please indicate your preferred starting date in your motivation letter.
